Bankruptcy Records
Bankruptcy
records are obtainable (publicly) via two sources: the VCIS
phone records retrieval system, and in some civil court records
databases.
Filing
for bankruptcy obviously triggers a number of databases used
by reporting agencies, legal archives and other government
bodies. However, not all of this data is made public.
In
general, searching civil court records is your best bet for
finding information regarding a bankruptcy, but the availability
of actual bankruptcy cases varies on a county by county basis.
(Click on the applicable state listed below to see if there's
any bankruptcy cases covered by the state's various county
court clerks and databases).
Other
than that, you can use the VCIS system ("Voice Case Information
System"), which is an automated service available via
phone. To locate the applicable VCIS numbers in your area,
please select a state below to begin.
We'd
like to remind you that if you are an employer or a landlord
and are using the following resources as part of your screening
process, you should be aware that the FCRA
has very specific guidelines in regards to how public information
can be used to determine eligibility for employment or tenancy.
Please
review them prior to using any public information to determine
a hiring or leasing decision.

financial judgments & bankruptcy filings.
VCIS
- short
for Voice Case Information System. You simply call the
applicable number and follow the prompts to retrieve
records. Search by case number, name or SSN over the
