Detective is a membership product similar to
Net
Detective (but owned/operated by a different company)
that provides the user with access to various public records
sources and search tools. The Web Detective site itself is
rather vague (just a talking head beside a "teaser"
search form), but they appear to compete with other related
services in the industry.

Web-Detective
seems to have had its "hayday" in years gone past,
as not much information (current info, anyway) is available
about it. However, of the feedback and comments that do exist
- it doesn't paint a pretty picture...
The
primary issue seems to be not so much the service itself,
but rather the somewhat-devious checkout process. Web-Detective
is billed to the user as a low-cost "trial", where,
after 3 days, the user is then billed $39.95 on a monthly
recurring basis. In addition to this, there's another service
that the user is subscribed to some sort of "privacy
lock" service for $38.83 per month, recurring.
Unsuspecting
users who didn't fully read the (very) fine print likely wouldn't
be thrilled to start seeing a recurring charge of almost $80
every month on their credit card statement.

Verdict:
Web
Detective may be useful, but will essentially
cost you almost $80/mth to use.
There
are other reputable services (such as CIS
Worldwide) that cost a fraction of that and
have a simple, easy to understand service that works
as stated.
